Después de Slumdog Millionaire, Danny Boyle cambia de giro para ahora producir, dirigir y co-escribir esta historia real, basada en el alpinista Aron Ralston Lee. James Franco interpreta a este personaje y, “by the way”, hace un maravilloso trabajo.
No quiero contarles muuucho de la historia por aquello del “spoiler alert”. En pocas palabras: es el relato de un alpinista que queda atrapado en Blue John Canyon, Utah, durante 127 horas; vivimos junto con el personaje la angustia, desesperación, derrota, valentía y ganas de vivir… todo al mismo tiempo. Sino tienen la sangre fria, como yo, hay una escena en particular en la cual seguro se taparán los ojitos.
Al comenzar a ver esta peli tenía miedo de que fuera extremadamente monótana, ya que es el relato de las 127 horas del personaje atrapado en un lugar minúsculo… Yo juraba que a los 10 minutos me iba a jetear, pues que tan equivocada estaba. Este filme es la muestra perfecta de la importancia de una buena edición en una peli, el ritmo es fluido, el uso de los 3 recuadros me encantó (ya verán de lo que hablo) y la supervisión musical (es decir, al que le toca la chidérrima chamba de decidir que rola va en cada escena de la peli) es precisa. Creo que 127 horas es un muy buen candidato para llevarse el Óscar a la mejor edición, lo tiene todo para ganar.
Esta película recibió un total de 6 nominaciones para los Óscares: mejor película, mejor actor principal (James Franco), mejor score original, mejor canción original, mejor edición y mejor guión adaptado. Yo le apuesto a que gana mejor score original y mejor edición, ya veremos el 27 de febrero.

I don’t want to spoil the movie for you, so I’ll be quite short on the synopsis. It is the anecdote of a mountain climber that gets trapped for 127 hours at the Blue John Canyon (Utah). Along with James Franco we live the characters’ anguish, defeat, courage, desperation and will to live… all at the same time. If you’re not cold hearted, like me, there’s a particular scene in which I promise you’ll cover your eyes.
At the start of the film I was a bit afraid of its possible monotony, since it is the story of the 127 hours of a character trapped, by himself, in a very small spot. I swore that I was going to fall asleep after 10 minutes, well I couldn’t of been more wrong. This movie is the perfect example of the importance of good editing, it has a fluid rhythm, loved the use of the 3 frames (you’ll see what I’m talking about) and the music supervision is just precise (this is the person that has the responsibility of choosing which song will go in each scene of the film, coolest job ever). I truly believe that 127 hours is a good candidate for the best editing category at the Academy Awards.
The film received a total of 6 nominations at the Academy Awards: best motion picture, best principal actor (James Franco), best original score, best original song, best editing and best adapted script. I can bet that it will take home the Oscar for best original score and for best editing… we’ll see what happens on February 27th.
