Nostradamus a la rebecoy… It’s Oscar time!!!

¡Que super mega hiper emoción! ¡Hoy es EL día… que Super Bowl ni que nada, hoy es el día más importante del año: OSCAR DAY!

Aquí les pongo quienes yo creo que sean los ganadores, a ver si luego no me vuelvo tan famosa como el Pulpo Paul, aunque mejor no, no deseo morir tan joven.

*Mejor película: Definitivamente creo que ganará The King’s Speech, aunque The Social Network y True Grit serán grandes competidores. Desgraciadamente, dudo que Black Swan e Inception tengan oportunidad alguna.

*Mejor dirección: Aquí estoy un pooooco obligada a elegir a Tom Hooper de “The King’s Speech” por aquello de que ganó el Directors Guild Award y quien se lleva ese premio es 90% probable que también se lleve el Óscar. Ahora que si fuera por gusto propio, a mi me encantaría que ganara Aranofsky, por The Black Swan.

*Mejor actor principal: Colin Firth por The Kings Speech. Diría que James Franco es un buen contendiente por 127 horas (realmente hizo un excelente trabajo), pero dudo que se lo den ya que él será el presentador de la noche, junto con Anne Hathaway.

*Mejor actriz principal: Sin duda alguna Natalie Portman por Black Swan (y sino se lo lleva haré el coraje de mi vida).

*Mejor actor secundario: Si por mi fuera Christian Bale , de The Fighter, se lo llevaría “hands down”, aunque como podría ser el año de The Kings Speech, Geoffrey Rush tiene una muy buena oportunidad.

*Mejor actriz secundaria: Si la Academia decide darle este premio a la “newcomer”, Hailee Stainfield será la afortunada por su papel en True Grit, si este no es el caso, se lo llevará o Melissa Leo o Amy Adams por The Fighter.

*Mejor guión original: Con eso de que será el año de The Kings Speech, seguramente David Seidler se llevará la estatuilla y bien merecida que la tendría.

*Mejor guión adaptado: esta será la gran oportunidad para The Social Network, es prácticamente un hecho que Aaron Sorkin pasará a dar su “speech” de agradecimiento.

*Mejor película extranjera: Aquí mi punto de vista no es naaaaada objetivo, no sólo porque quiero que gane Biutiful, sino porque desgraciadamente no he podido ver ninguna otra.

*Mejor largometraje animado: Toy Story 3, no hay más.

*Mejor largometraje documental: No he podido ver ninguno de los docus nominados (eso de chambear no te deja tanto tiempo libre), sin embargo por lo que he escuchado y leído Inside Job es el que tiene mayor oportunidad, ya veremos…

*Mejor cinematografía: uffff Black Swan, es una belleza la cinematografía hecha por Matthew Libatique. Por otro lado tenemos a Roger Deakins (cinematógrafo de True Grit) que ya ha sido nominado 9 veces, tons creo que ya le toca al chavo.

*Mejor edición: Yo le voy a Jon Harris por 127 Horas, un trabajo realmente bestial, aunque probablemente se lo lleve Angus Wall por The Social Network.

*Mejor dirección de arte: No lo dudo ni tantito… Alicia en el país de las maravillas, el look de todas las pelis de Tim Burton es “jaw dropping”.

*Mejor maquillaje: mmmm no he visto ninguna de las pelis aquí nominadas. ¿The Wolfman? “just a wild guess”.

*Música (score original): seguro esta categoría también será ganada por The Kings Speech, Alexandre Desplat fue el encargado de ese gran score.

*Música (canción original): en los últimos años esta categoría se le ha ido a la mejor animación, por lo cual chance y gane Randy Newman con la rola “We belong together”, creada para Toy Story 3.

*Mejores efectos visuales: ni más ni menos que Inception (pobre algo tiene que ganar), eso de enrollar toda una ciudad no ha de haber sido nadito sencillo.

*Edición de audio: otro que se tiene que llevar Inception. ¿Han visto esta peli con un sorround system?

*Mejor diseño de audio: probablemente este Óscar se lo lleve The Social Network, hicieron un muy buen trabajo además de que seguro le darán este premio para que no se vayan con las manos tan vacías.

*Mejor corto documental: Killing in the name tiene una muy buena oportunidad. Trata de un musulmán que invita a cuestionar la ideología terrorista que llevó a alguien a matar 27 personas en una boda.

*Mejor corto animado: Quien haya visto Toy Story 3 en el cine ha visto al corto ganador… Day and night. No me cabe la menor duda de que este corto creado por Pixar se llevará el premio.

*Mejor corto live-action: No he visto ninguno de estos cortos pero los invito a ver los trailers en este sitio http://bit.ly/hJ4OPo ¿Cuál se ve como el ganador?

English speaking friends, sorry for not including my entire explanation but I don’t really have the time to re-write it all. However, here is the list of who I think will be the winners, this Sunday, at the Academy Awards.

The Social Network ¿se merece ser la favorita?

En definitiva, The Social Network fue la favorita en los Globos de Oro (ganando mejor filme dramático y mejor dirección). La primera pregunta es: ¿se lo merece? Es muy buena película, eso no lo dudo, pero no creo que sea LAAA mejor.

La siguiente pregunta es ¿será la favorita de los Óscares?  Yo creo que la batalla central estará entre The King’s Speech y Social Network. Esto lo digo en base a lo que se ha visto en los Globos de Oro y en los premios SAG (Screen Actors Guild). Me encantaría decir que Inception seguro gana, pero lo dudo ;(

La neta la neta, me encantó la película de David Fincher aunque no creo que sea la mejor del 2010. Aún me faltan varias por ver pero hasta ahorita… Inception va ganando la batalla (desde mi punto de vista verdaaaa).

El guión de The Social Network es bueno y muy bien logrado pero a nivel de producción hay muchas otras pelis que se la llevan de calle. ¿A qué me refiero con el nivel de producción? Pongamos a The Social Network vs. Black Swan. La primera, sin duda, tiene una excelente adaptación a guión, gran reparto y dirección actoral, buena edición…. sin embargo, tenemos a Black Swan que tiene todo lo anterior + unas coreografías majestuosas, fotografía insuperable y efectos alucinantes.

Pero dejemos de comparar que es igual de horrible que comparar a tu ex con tu pareja actual. Para aquellos despistados que aún no han tenido el chance de ver esta peli, ahí les va mi crítica resumida.

Esta cinta es una brillante exploración de la creación de la red social más grande del planeta, Facebook. La peli gira alrededor del genio, Mark Zuckerberg, creador y padre de esta red social. Jesse Eisenberg fue elegido para interpretar a este personaje e hizo un extraordinario trabajo.

Cabe mencionar que en un incio los dueños del “caralibro” estaban aterrados de que se filmara esta historia, temían que la marca fuera a sufrir consecuencias ultra-negativas, pero ohhhhh nooo… ¡sino que sucedió todo lo contrario! El filme ayudó a vender Facebook y a hacer de Mark Zuckerberg un ser cool, ¡¡¡tan cool que hasta ya fue invitado para aparecer en Saturday Night Live!!!

Y después de darle muchas vueltas a esto, ya disculparán ustedes, solo me queda decir que la cinta es realmente buena, pero no lo suficiente como para ganar el Óscar a mejor película (mi MUY humilde opinión). ¿Ustedes qué opinan?

The Social Network was, without doubt, the favourite of the Golden Globes, taking home an award for best dramatic film and best direction. Did the movie deserve it? In my opinion, it’s a great film, no questions asked, yet I don’t think it is THE best 2010 film.

The following question is: will it be the favourite at the Academy Awards? I believe that the central battle will be between The Kings’ Speech and The Social Network (although True Grit will give a good fight). I write this based on what we have seen at the Golden Globes and at the SAG Awards (Screen Actors Guild). I would love to say that Inception will win, but I doubt it ;(

Don’t get me wrong, I honestly loved David Finchers’ last creation, I simply don’t think it was the best 2010 had to offer. I still have a few films to watch, but for now Inception is the winner (my humble opinion).

The script of The Social Network is very well accomplished and quite awesome but at a production level there are many other films that win the race. What do I mean with production level? Let’s put The Social Network vs. Black Swan. The first, without doubt, has a brutal adapted script, great cast and direction, fantastic editing… however; we have a Black Swan that on top of all that, has breathtaking choreographies, outstanding cinematography and hallucinating visual effects.

Nevertheless, let’s stop comparing since it is equally terrible as comparing your ex with your current couple. For the workaholics out there, that haven’t had the time to see the film, here goes a short critique.

The movie is a brilliant exploration of the largest social network on the planet, Facebook. It focuses on Mark Zuckerberg, the creator and father of this network. Jesse Eisenberg was chosen to interpret this role and, may I say, did an outstanding job.

At the beginning the owners of Facebook were terrified that the story was going to be filmed, they thought the brand was going to suffer extreme negative consequences but ohhhhhh noooo… on the contrary! The film helped sell Facebook and turned Mark Zuckerberg in a cool being, so cool that he even got invited to Saturday Night Live!

Let’s conclude this, shall we? The Social Network is extremely well done, yes, but not enough to win the Oscar for best live action film. Once again, just my opinion. What did you think about the movie?

Black Swan duality

Finalmente logré ver Black Swan (llevaba semanas muriéndome de ganas por verla), puedo decir que ha cumplido con mis expectativas: fotografía, maquillaje, vestuario, actuación e historia.

Para empezar, si Natalie Portman no gana el Oscar a mejor actriz haré un graaaaan coraje… de que se lo merece, se lo merece! Lograr interpretar la dualidad del blanco y el negro no ha de haber sido nada sencillo. Mila Kunis no se queda atrás, la bitchy amiga que no sabes si es su amiga o su peor enemiga le sale a la perfección! No podría decir lo mismo del estelar masculino, Vincent Cassel, (como bien lo dijo @allan05) un poco forzado el muchacho, como que no se lo crees al 100% ¿Cómo lo vieron?

Ahora uno de mis temas favoritos… el vestuario. De veras que es una chulada, que barbaridad! Los vestuarios de ballet fueron creados por las hermanas Laura y Kate Mulleavy diseñadoras de Rodarte. Si quieren saber más del vestuario pueden leer la nota en Fashionary Network.

La historia se me hizo, en ocasiones un poco confusa, pero por lo general con un excelente ritmo. Guarda un perfecto equilibrio entre tomas de ballet y la historia como tal.

La pregunta de los 10 millones: ¿Merece ganar el Oscar a mejor película? Jijoles… sino le tocara competir contra Inception diría que indudablemente SÍ!!!! Peeeeeero, ese no es el caso y en otra nota leerán porque es que creo que Inceptión debe ganar (aunque probablemente The Social Network sea el triunfador).

Para aquellos que aún no han logrado verla en el cine, les dejo el trailer. Neta inviértanle a la ida al cine, no se sentirán defraudados.

First of all, guys and gals reading this blog from the US and Canada: sorry for the delay in the posts but you have to understand that the film distribution agenda is quite deferred in Mexico, bear with me. So I finally got to watch Black Swan and it absolutely met my expectations: wardrobe, makeup, cinematography, acting and story.

Let’s talk about the acting first. If Natalie Portman doesn’t take the Oscar home for best actress, I’m going to be mad… REALLY mad!!! She totally deserves it. I’m pretty sure being able to interpret the black and white duality was not child’s play. Mila Kunis did quite a good job herself, the bitchy friend role fits her perfectly, you don’t know if she is the best friend or worst enemy. As for, Vincent Cassel, I can’t say the same. He’s not as convincing as the others. What did you think about it?

Wardrobe: WOW, WOW and triple WOW! Absolutely fascinating! The ballet wardrobe was created by the sisters Laura and Kate Mulleavy, designers and creators of Rodarte. If you want to practice your spanish, you can go ahead and read more about the wardrobe for this film in Fashionary Network.

At times the story was a bit confusing for me, but it generally had a great rhythm. The balance between the ballet scenes and those of the rest of the story is stupendous.

So, you may be wondering, do you think it deserves to win the Oscar for best live-action film? If Inception wasn’t in the same category, I would most defintely say YES…. Buuuut, that is not the case. Further on, in a following post, you’ll find out why I think Inception should win that award (even though The Social Network will, probably, be the lucky one).
